Buy now wear immediately xxx

Since opening our doors a couple of months ago we have been on the hunt for a fabulous knitwear label..one that ticks all the T&G boxes.  Obviously it must be fashionable; it has to be good quality; reasonably priced; very wearable...but most importantly we wanted a label that was not already stocked in the West so that we could offer our customers a real point of difference.  So you can imagine how thrilled, delighted and over the moon (can you tell how happy we are) we were when we secured Queen L.

A little research into the label and our delight grew...designed in Melbourne, Queen L uses prestigious yarns like 100% Merino wool, cashmere, soft cottons, silks, mohair and de-haired angora blends in their designs (tick).  The label clearly focuses on quality (tick) and designs styles that are not only on-trend (tick) but are versatile enough to become staples in your day to day wardrobe (big tick).  Besides which their designs can be worn by the young as well as the young at heart which means I'm covered.

It's all in your genetics xxx

Denim brands - they're a dime a dozen..or so the saying goes.  Walk into any retailer that has a denim destination and you are inundated with choice..and I should know, I used to buy denim for Target spending many hours walking the floors of American department stores trying on hundreds of jeans in search of that perfect pair.  And what makes a perfect pair of jeans you ask..well first and foremost it's the fit..the shape of the rise plays such a critical part in how they sit on your body..if that curve in the pattern is too sharp or too rounded you'll have an ill fitting pair of jeans that either rides up your backside or gapes at the small of your back..and really who wants that?  Next up is the quality of the denim..if it's too cheap the fabric becomes chewy..wear it a couple of times, wash it and you have a pair of jeans that no longer fits you unless you wear a belt!  Then there's the different washes; the styling; clean denim or with abrasion???...throw into the mix that we are all shaped differently and you can see why shopping for jeans can become a real struggle.

Enter Genetic Denim..a denim brand that recognises that every individual has a specific genetic code and body type and seeks to present the best possible fit for all..."accentuating assets rather than forcing everyone into the same mold". Brilliant.  Genetic denim is the embodiment of well crafted and innovative denim made with the finest materials (it is actually recognised for using the softest fabrics in the market..gotta love that!) and for offering the most flattering fits. Excellent.  Plus they tailor their denim to different personalities..if for example you're glamourous and alluring (aren't we all?) Genetic Denim suggests Shane their signature skinny jean. A jean that is all around flattering with a twisted seam that perfectly contours your legs and thighs creating a long lean silhouette. Perfect sign me up.

However if after all of this you still aren't convinced just check out who (other than me) is wearing these fabulous fashion forward and underground cool jeans. xxx

An experience xxx

A curious thing happened to me today while reading Mia Freedman's article 'Off the Trolley' in the June 5 edition of The Sunday Age Magazine, I suddenly realised that the charade I've often been through with my husband is not rare or as peculiar as I had first imagined.  Not only is it obviously quite common but Ms Freedman even refers to it as "one of the most popular modern sports for women: Shop, Hide and Lie."

Having spent most of my working life as a fashion Buyer for a number of Australian womenswear brands this sport has been quite challenging for me..throw into the equation that my husband is an ex fashion Buyer too, who keeps abreast of current fashion trends, and it's game on. "Oh this old thing..no honey this isn't new it's just an old sample we never used.."; "No darling, a supplier gave this to me ages ago..wasn't that generous!"

Laughing out loud I was truly surprised to read that this activity is being played out in other houses around the country and saw my old self reflected in other women's tactics of smuggling their new purchases into their homes.  This at least has eased for me recently with the opening of T&G..all of my new purchases are styles that we house at Tiger and Goat and therefore is clearly free advertising (sure this is the only motivation!)

Really though shopping for me should be an experience not a sport!  That's in actuality why we opened in the first place..to offer busy women in the West a place that houses beautiful product that they'd normally need to cross the bridge for, that hopefully wont break the bank or need to be snuck into their wardrobe!  A place that also offers after hour service for one on one shopping; or shopping parties for small groups of friends (also available after hours with champagne provided); styling advice and wardrobe de-cluttering. All available in a warm and friendly environment where no one ever asks "Is that new?"

* We can also wrap purchases in plain tissue paper which can fit neatly into any size handbag however. xx
